Most known Irish in storm area safe

An official of the Irish Consulate-General in Chicago has travelled to Houston in Texas to help Irish people who have been evacuated from New Orleans.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is still trying to establish the whereabouts of a small number of Irish people in the affected area.

Yesterday there were ten Irish people missing but a number of those are understood to have made contact with their families overnight.

Three students from Louth are now in Dallas. There are at least three other Irish people in Dallas.

They are being put up in a hotel overnight and will be flown home tomorrow. They are being assisted by a member of the staff of the department.
