Soldiers' group outlines bullying concerns

The representative association for enlisted soldiers has complained that the military authorities at barrack level are still hesitant to comprehensively tackle the issue of bullying.

PDFORRA made its comments after it was revealed that two people have been disciplined by military law arising out of an investigation into allegations of bullying of recruits at McKee Barracks in Dublin last year.

The investigation centred on claims that a soldier was locked into a locker and made to eat food off the floor.

The PDFORRA General Secretary, Gerry Rooney, said allegations of bullying are viewed seriously by the higher authorities in the Defence Forces but the underlying issue remains a concern.
