Saudi Arabia's King Fahd has died.

The king, who was in his 80's, had been in poor health for some time.

His half-brother, Crown Prince Abdullah, has been named as his successor.

The prince has been running the country's day-to-day affairs since the king suffered a stroke in 1995.

'Members of the family have pledged allegiance to Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz as King over the country.'
