US told to leave Uzbekistan air base

The United States has been given six months to move out of a strategically important base in Uzbekistan used for operations in Afghanistan.

A Pentagon spokesman said the US was looking at a notice to quit the Karshi-Khanabad air base from the Uzbekistan government.

Relations between the two countries have worsened since the US supported demands for an independent investigation into Uzbekistan's handling of unrest in the city of Andejan in May.
