Gardaí say an investigation is ongoing into a road accident in which a 74-year-old woman was struck by a garda car in south Dublin just over three weeks ago.
The woman has been named as Mrs Mary Seavers from Goatstown in south Co Dublin.
Mrs Seavers died from her injuries at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin this morning.
The accident happened on Clonskeagh Road on 22 May.
Gardaí say the probe into the accident could take a number of months.
However, they declined to say whether it had been established that the gardaí in the squad car were responding to a call.
Witnesses to the accident claim to have heard a siren around the time of the crash.
A garda spokeswoman said the type and format of the investigation would remain broadly the same, despite the woman's death.
However, she added that if it is decided that charges should be pressed at the conclusion of the probe, these could now be different as a result of her death.
