Services resume at Waterford Port

Rosslare Port - Fishermen end protest
Rosslare Port - Fishermen end protest

The fishermen's blockade which stopped ferry and other traffic into and out of Rosslare and Waterford throughout the morning ended this afternoon and services have returned to normal.

Up to 1,000 ferry passengers were held up since this morning when the ports were blocked by fishermen protesting at controls that have been put in place by the Department of the Marine on scallop fishing. Discussions with local politicians have since taken place.

The picketers, from Kilmore Quay in Co Wexford, were threatening to block the road indefinitely, although they allowed some cars and lorries to pass.
