The Minister for Transport has denied that the toll plaza on the M50 in Dublin is going to be bought out by the Government in the near future.
Martin Cullen has told the Dáil that there are no such proposals on his desk, or in the Department of Transport, and said remarks yesterday by the Chief Executive of the National Roads Authority had been 'over interpreted'.
Mr Cullen said the income from the tolls was funding the widening of the M50.
He said what had been discussed with the company that owns the toll plaza, NTR, was a move to barrier-flow tolling as quickly as possible. The Minister said he had also told them he did not accept that this change should take four or five years.
