An Irishman has been appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Greece.
Archbishop Patrick Coveney is a native of Tracton Abbey parish in the Diocese of Cork and Ross and was ordained a priest of Cork and Ross in 1959.
He was consecrated Archbishop at the North Cathedral, Cork, in 1985.
Dr Coveney is currently Apostolic Nuncio in New Zealand and will take up his new position in early March.
The Vatican announced the appointment by Pope John Paul II this afternoon.
