A new opinion poll indicates that nine out of ten people in Ireland over the age of 18 believe in God.
In the TNS survey, published this morning for the Irish Times, 87% of those questioned said they believed in God.
69% of that group said their faith was not weakened by tragedies such as the recent Indian Ocean disaster.
The poll was carried out in the wake of the recent debate on the existence of God that ensued following the tragedy.
The poll reported fewest believers among the 18-24 age group, a group that also indicated its faith was most likely to be weakened as a result of disasters.
