14 people have been killed and 50 injured after two trains collided near the northern Italian city of Bologna.
The accident happened when a passenger train and a freight train collided on the same track between the towns of Crevalcore and Camposanto.
Police and fire brigade officials said that at least three of the 50 people who were injured in the crash were seriously hurt.
Dozens of ambulances were rushed to the scene and a fire service helicopter was sent from Rome.
The crash took place in heavy fog, and a spokesman for Italfer, the state railway management company, said several carriages were derailed.
Fire brigade officials said the thick fog at the time of the accident had made it difficult to bring cranes close to the track.
