Afghanistan's first democratically elected leader, Hamid Karzai, was sworn in as President at a ceremony in the capital, Kabul, this morning.
The US Vice President, Dick Cheney, and the American Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, were among the guests.
The event took place under tight security following warnings from Taliban guerrillas that they are planning attacks across the country.
