Spain's former Prime Minister, Jose Maria Aznar, has defended his decision to initially blame the Madrid train bombings on Basque guerrillas.
Speaking before a parliamentary committee in Madrid investigating the bombings, Mr Aznar said he had never lied.
191 people were killed and more than 1,800 were injured when four commuter trains were bombed last March.
Mr Aznar's government lost the general election three days later with many Spaniards believing the attacks were the result of his pro-Iraq war stance.
Islamic militants are thought to have been responsible for the bombings.
