It is understood that the Taoiseach was to speak to the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, tonight by phone to review progress in the ongoing efforts to resolve the North's political impasse.
The two governments are expected to present a response to concerns raised by the DUP and Sinn Féin tomorrow.
Sinn Féin leaders are due to arrive in London tomorrow for further talks.
Earlier, Bertie Ahern said progress is being made in efforts to restore devolved government to Stormont.
Speaking to reporters in Dublin this morning, Bertie Ahern said officials worked on amendments to the joint initiative late last night.
If Mr Ahern and British Prime Minister Tony Blair approve the amendments they will be passed to the DUP and Sinn Féin delegations for consideration.
Yesterday, the DUP and Sinn Féin raised a number of concerns when they met Mr Ahern and Mr Blair.
Mr Ahern said he hoped to be in a position to reply to the parties by tomorrow. He said the governments will give an honest response to the outstanding issues.
'I suspect it will narrow down to a small number of issues as always, but we'll try and get that done as we go into the weekend,' said the Taoiseach.
