The death toll from the train crash in Berkshire in England has risen to seven.

A hospital spokeswoman said a man who had been in a critical condition following the derailment last night died this afternoon.

The collision of the high speed train with a stationary car on an unmanned level crossing has left at least ten other people seriously injured in hospital.

The train driver was among those killed.

It has emerged that an off duty police officer witnessed the crash. He told investigators that the car had stopped on the crossing before the barriers came down.

The incident happened shortly after 6pm yesterday evening and rescue teams worked through the night to remove passengers from the wreckage.

Three hundred passengers were on board - some were trapped in the wreckage for several hours.
