Church slams Spain's plans for gay marriage

The Catholic Church has attacked the Spanish government's plans to introduce marriage for gay couples.

A church spokesman said the proposal was like releasing a harmful virus into society.

The Spanish Cabinet is expected to pass a bill on Friday allowing same sex marriages. Recent opinion polls suggest that two thirds of Spaniards are in favour of the new law.
