A Fianna Fáil member of Galway County Council has resigned from the party two days after it was revealed that gardaí are investigating alleged financial irregularities.
In a statement, the Ardrahan-based councillor, Michael Fahy, confirmed he was the councillor involved in the garda investigation into alleged misappropriation of road funding.
Mr Fahy said that, pending the outcome of the investigation, he was voluntarily resigning from the party.
It is not clear if Mr Fahy is to resign his council seat.
