The Irishman who was killed in a bus crash in Peru yesterday has been named as 21-year-old David Scollard from Friarstown, Ballybricken, Co Limerick.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it was offering consular assistance to Mr Scollard's family through the Irish Embassy in Mexico and the Honorary Consul in Peru.

He was among six people killed when the bus plunged into a gorge on its way to the tourist city of Cuzco.

Another Irishman, understood to be a friend of Mr Scollard, was among at least 37 people injured.
