Trams returned to the streets of Dublin for the first time in half a century today when the first completed line of the city's light rail LUAS system opened to the public.
The service between Sandyford and St Stephen's Green began at 3pm this afternoon.
A problem was reported on one of the first trams, which resulted in all passengers having to disembark at Kilmacud.
It is understood that an object was wedged in a door of the tram, and hence the doors could not be closed.
The passengers, numbering around 300, were taken off the tram and had to wait ten minutes until a new tram arrived for them.
Earlier, the first tram carrying the Minister for Transport, dignitaries and invited guests was applauded by a crowd of onlookers as it arrived at the city terminus.
Séamus Brennan warned pedestrians and motorists to take extra care during the first weeks of the new system.
