Emergency services in Glasgow have said the toll from the plastics factory explosion in the city has risen to seven.

Four of those killed have been named. They are: Ann Trench, 34, of Colston, Glasgow; Margaret Brownlie, 49, of Glassford Road, Strathaven; Tracey McErlane, 27, of Westercommon Drive, Possilpark and Peter Ferguson, 52, of Kilbarchan.

The factory was destroyed by a blast yesterday in which 41 people were also injured, 17 seriously.

An unknown number of other people are thought to be trapped.

The Strathclyde Firemaster, Brian Sweeney, said knocking noises had been heard this morning, and that rescue workers were hopeful that survivors could still be found.

Up to 100 rescue workers, using dogs and special equipment, spent the night searching through the rubble.
