The World Food Programme says it has withdrawn three teams of inspectors from their mission in Zimbabwe after a dispute with the government of Robert Mugabe.

The teams were sent to assess the state of crops and food stocks in the areas of greatest shortage after aid agencies dismissed the country's crop requirement as too high.

Zimbabwe, formerly an exporter of food, now relies on aid supplies following the controversial reform programme which took land from white commercial farmers.
