The European Union has agreed to ease cross border trade restrictions on the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The north of the island will be left out of the union when Greek Cypriots in the south join the EU on Saturday.

The decision to ease the 30-year-old trade embargo is seen as a reward for Turkish Cypriots, who voted to support a UN plan to unite the island.
