The possibility of a visit to Ireland by US President George W Bush during Ireland's EU presidency has been raised in the Dáil.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Brian Cowen said a summit was expected to take place.
He added negotiations are continuing with US officials on the timing and location of a visit.
