EU to pass law on social welfare

Unemployed people are to be able to claim benefits in other EU states for up to six months.

The Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Coughlan, has said she expects the EU to pass the new law this coming year.

It is one of a number of measures that are expected to be ratified during Ireland's presidency of the EU.
