Trade ministers from across the Americas have approved the framework of a deal to create what will be the largest free-trade zone in the world.

Trade ministers from across the Americas have approved the framework of a deal to create what will be the largest free-trade zone in the world.

The new zone will stretch from Alaska to the southern tip of Chile, incorporating 34 nations and involving 800 million people.

The so-called Free Trade Area of The Americas was agreed at a summit meeting in Miami and is due to come into being by 2005.
