McAleese meets leading loyalists

President Mary McAleese has visited a number of loyalist areas in the North and has shaken hands with some of the leading figures in the UDA.

The President confirmed that over a considerable period of time she and her husband have been working to improve relations with the loyalist community.

Among those who welcomed her today was Jackie McDonald, one of the main figures in the UDA.
