179 jobs to go at Tayto

watch

Crisp maker Tayto is to lay off 179 staff from two of its plants in Dublin.

Tayto's Terenure plant will close in October resulting in 164 redundancies. A further 15 staff will lose their jobs at the company's Coolock plant, but this will be on a voluntary basis.

The company has decided to outsource production at its Terenure plant to Largo Foods, who will now produce Tayto's Snax, Chipsticks, Mighty Munch and Wheelie ranges.

Crisp production will continue in the Coolock plant where Tayto is investing ¤5m in new technology.

Tayto will employ a total of 406 people in Ireland once the changes are complete.
