The Fine Gael TD, Michael Ring, has confirmed that he is bringing a High Court challenge against the Local Government Act which outlaws the dual mandate, under which TDs and Senators could be members of local authorities.
Speaking this morning after consulting his legal team, the Mayo TD said he would be going ahead with his action and was awaiting legal documentation.
Mr Ring is objecting to the end of the dual mandate and has claimed cross-party support for his stance against Environment Minister Martin Cullen's legislation.
