Fears that the introduction of the euro would lead to higher prices seem to have been well founded according to new research. The results of the survey, carried out by the Consumers Association of Ireland and due to be published this week will show that the euro has been used to fleece the public.
The report will highlight huge increases in medical costs such as visits to the doctor, now standing at €35, or an increase of over 10%. Huge increases have also taken place in the prices of alcohol, soft drinks, clothes, footwear, and admission to cinemas and discos. In some cases prices have gone up by as much as 15%, says the report.
