Jim Higgins TD has called on the Minister for Public Enterprise to explain why the doors on a suburban train carriage failed to close in central Dublin in Monday morning.
The train was travelling between Tara Street and Pearse Street Stations when it developed a technical fault.
The Fine Gael Spokesman on Public Enterprise told the Dáil last night that passengers had to cling to seats and support bars to avoid being drawn towards the open door.
Minister of State Dan Wallace said in response that the carriage in question has been taken out of service, and is undergoing examination. He said that all other rail cars in this class have been tested, but no problems had come to light.
Mary O'Rourke has asked Iarnród Éireann to provide the report of its formal inquiry as a matter of urgency.
