Lawlor says he did all in his power to co-operate

Liam Lawlor has told RTÉ News that he still believed he had done all in his power to co-operate with the Flood Tribunal. The Dublin West TD said that because he had forgotten he had put money in his sons' accounts he had landed himself in this position. He said that he had not been protecting anyone.
Mr Lawlor said today that he would not appeal his one-month jail sentence, which he is due to start tomorrow. The High Court last week ordered him back to jail after it found that the TD had failed to comply with orders from the Flood Tribunal.
The former Fianna Fáil TD was also fined ¤12,500. Mr Lawlor said in an interview with Marian Finucane on RTÉ Radio this morning that he would decide in mid-March whether he would run for the Dáil in the next election.
Mr Lawlor also strongly criticised the media, accusing The Star newspaper of publishing fabricated photos. He said that Brian Farrell had behaved as "judge, jury and executioner" in a Prime Time interview. Mr Lawlor also claimed that prison officers had been offered ¤6,000 to get a photo of him in Mountjoy.
