The champion rally driver, Bertie Fisher, who was critically injured in a helicopter crash on Sunday, has died in hospital. His son and daughter, Mark and Emma, died instantly when the family owned helicopter crashed into woods as the family were returning from a birthday celebration in County Mayo. Mr Fisher's wife, Gladys, who was also seriously injured in the crash, is being cared for at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Their son, Roy, who survived the accident, is in a stable condition.
Air accident investigators have begun an inquiry into the cause of yesterday's crash. Bertie Fisher was piloting the helicopter when it went down. The RUC say that Mr Fisher was an accomplished pilot, and there is no clear indication why the aircraft went down.
