Three people have appeared in court in the midlands charged in connection with an incident where six hand guns and a quantity of cocaine and heroin were discovered at a house in Co Westmeath on Monday.

Appearing before Athlone District Court, Judge Seamus Hughes told 31-year-old father-of-two Thomas Doran, from New Ballinderry Cottages, Mullingar, Co Westmeath that the charges against him and another man were "very serious" and remanded them both in custody to Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

Mr Doran and David Fallon, 28, from the same address in Mullingar were charged with having in their possession five Sig Sauer pistol type fire arms and one Beretta pistol type firm arm at the house in Mullingar last Monday, 2 November.

They were also charged with possession of 82 rounds of ammunition and cocaine and heroin with intent for sale or supply.

They will appear again by video link at Mullingar District Court on 12 November.

A third person also appeared before the court to face charges in connection with the incident.

Mother-of-two Marie Farrell with an address of Grattan Park, Derrinturn, Carbury, Co Kildare is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sale or supply.

She was remanded on bail with a €5,000 independent surety and ordered to comply with strict bail conditions, including a curfew at her home and instructed to sign on daily to Leixlip Garda Station.
