Two investigations are under way into an incident in Co Longford during which a man received a gunshot wound to his leg and a dog was killed.
It is understood gardaí, who were following up on a investigation, became involved in a confrontation, and a garda discharged a shot towards an Alsatian dog.
It is understood a man that was nearby received minor injuries from a ricochet.
Both gardaí and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission are investigating the incident.
