The Garda Commissioner has told a meeting in the midlands that he wants people to be able to live in a society where they can feel safe from crime.
Drew Harris was speaking at a joint policing committee in Co Longford .
It was the newly-appointed commissioner's first public meeting in the midlands where the issue of crime prevention in rural areas was raised with him.
Drew Harris attended the meeting at Ballymahon alongside chairperson of the Policing Authority Josephine Feehily.
