Seven men and a woman have appeared at a special sitting of the district court in Longford this evening charged with the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the town.
The eight, who are aged between 18 and 55, were arrested early this morning after an 18-month garda operation in the area.
A second woman who was also arrested in the investigation was released without charge.
Longford District Court was told this evening that two members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau came to Longford over the 18-month period and engaged with people in the district who were alleged to be in possession of controlled drugs with intent to sale and supply.
The court was told that the total value of drugs seized by gardai was less than €2,000 with quantities of cocaine, cannabis and heroin being detected.
Judge Hughes remanded all eight on bail after setting down a number of conditions.
