A 56-year-old Galway man has appeared in court in Co Roscommon charged in connection with allegations of false accounting surrounding a school meals scheme at a secondary school, and over 20 charges of theft from the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board.
Frank Chambers, with an address of Cranacregg, Moylough, Co Galway, appeared before Judge James Faughnan at Roscommon District Court today.
He faced seven charges under Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act 2001 of false accounting including leaving blank entries and making false entries on applications for school meals local projects scheme at Roscommon Community College.
Mr Chambers was also charged with dishonestly concealing documents with the intention of making a gain for himself or another in an A5 hardbook copy outlining the monetary takings in the school tuck shop at Roscommon Community College between March and June 2017.
The accused was charged with 26 offences of stealing cash, the property of Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board between 2012 and 2017.
The district court was told Mr Chambers had been arrested today by Detective Garda Chris Murray of Roscommon Garda Station.
Mr Chambers was released on bail to appear again at a sitting of the district court in Castlerea on Friday 4 December.
