A former garda due to appear at a sitting of the Strokestown District Court today, charged in connection with an alleged assault during the repossession of a house near the town last December, has had his case adjourned until October after failing to show up at court.

Kevin Taylor, with an address of Ardnacassa Lawns, Dublin Road, Longford, was due to appear before the court in relation to an alleged incident that took place at Falsk, Strokestown, Co Roscommon on 11 December last.

However, 63-year-old Mr Taylor failed to appear in court and gardaí sought an adjournment of the case to the 23 October.

Judge Deirdre Gearty said she would issue a disclosure order to the defendant and as it was the first occasion on which he was due to attend in court, she would adjourn the proceedings until 23 October.

There was no legal representation present in court for Mr Taylor either.

Outside the court an anti-eviction group of over 30 people staged a silent protest.
