A protest against the use of a site in Co Leitrim to house asylum seekers has been stood down.
A group of residents and business people from Ballinamore who had opposed a proposal to provide accommodation for asylum seekers in disused apartments in the town removed their protest at the site today.
The group claims they took the decision following communication earlier today from Junior Minister David Stanton's department.
They say they have been given a firm commitment that the proposal will not be progressed until further negotiations take place with the group's spokespersons.
The group say they remain steadfast in their opposition to the plans for the Rock Quarter apartments but have dismantled their protest at the site with immediate effect.
