Gardaí in Co Leitrim are investigating an incident at a hotel in the town of Rooskey on the Roscommon border tonight.

The Shannon Key West hotel was due to be adapted as a centre for asylum seekers.

Three units of the fire brigade have responded to a report of a fire at the building, but there is no visible signs of a blaze or smoke emerging from the building, and an investigation is under way.

Locals say a report was made that a non-identified object had been thrown on to the balcony on the first floor of the building, but this has not been confirmed by gardaí.

The scene has been sealed off and a full examination will take place in the next hour.
