A 20-year-old man from Co Laois has appeared in court charged in connection with possession and sale with intent to supply cocaine.

The charge followed the discovery by gardaí of quantities of the drug with an estimated value of €161,000 over the weekend.

Jack Ryan, with an address of Inverness House, Patrick Street, Portarlington, was charged under Section 15 of the Criminal Justice Act and appeared at a sitting of the District Court in Tullamore this morning.

He was remanded on bail with conditions and is due to appear in court again on 25 August.
