Dozens of families, cocooned in their homes in Co Offaly because of the Covid-19 emergency came out on the streets of Rhode to welcome home an 83-year-old woman who has recovered after being diagnosed with the coronavirus.
Mary Joe Kilmurray, a former post mistress and a mother of six, broke her hip after she fell in her kitchen in early March.
Just as she was recovering in hospital in Tullamore, she was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
But she was given the all clear by her doctors at the Midlands Regional Hospital and was greeted by the local community, who came out in socially distant family groups for her return to the village.
Welcoming her home, former Gaelic footballer Paddy McCormack, known as the 'Iron Man of Rhode', said Mary Joe was one of the great characters of the community and everyone was delighted she had made a full recovery.
