A 34-year-old man has died following a crash at a road race event in Co Westmeath. 

The incident happened at Walderstown road races at around 11.30am.

The man, who was from Co Antrim and was taking part in the event, was airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he later died.

The races have now been abandoned.

Gardaí are at the scene and are investigating, and the coroner has been notified.
