Moe Dunford is to be honoured with a Breakthrough Artist Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in Southern California in April.

The Irish actor stars in three of the festival's films, Metal Heart, Rosie and The Dig.

He will be presented with the Breakthrough Artist Award at the Festival Honours reception at the Balboa Bay Resort on Saturday, April 27.

The 31-year-old star is best known for his work on the popular TV series Vikings and the acclaimed films Patrick's Day and Michael Inside.

On Sunday, April 28, the festival will present its Irish Showcase, an evening celebration of Irish cinema and culture. 

The event will feature the premiere of Dunford's Metal Heart and Rosie and Pat Shortt's The Belly of the Whale.

Other Irish films screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival include Irish director Alexandra McGuinness’ film, She’s Missing, which stars Lucy Fry and Josh Hartnett, John Butler's Papi Chulo and Carmel Winters’ Float Like A Butterfly.

The Newport Beach Film Festival runs for eight days from April 25 - May 2.
