Vin Diesel has been named the top-grossing star of 2017 with $1.6 billion in ticket sales for his films, beating his Fast and Furious co-star Dwayne Johnson to the accolade from business magazine Forbes.

According to Forbes, The Fate of the Furious - aka Fast & Furious 8 - took in over $1.2 billion worldwide with Diesel's other franchise film, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, helping to push his final tally up to $1.6 billion.

Johnson was in second place with $1.5 billion, a figure which includes $1.2 billion from The Fate of the Furious and $178 million worldwide ticket sales for summer flop Baywatch. Johnson's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has just opened in cinemas and will add to his final box office for 2017.

In third place on the list was Gal Gadot, whose solo outing as Wonder Woman and subsequent Justice League adventure amassed $1.4 billion in ticket sales.
