Éamon de Valera recalls events in Ireland after the executions of the leaders of the Easter Rising and his escape from Lincoln Jail.
At a celebration held by Fianna Fál to mark the 40th anniversary of the first Dáil, Éamon de Valera describes events in Ireland after the 1916 Rising and his escape from Lincoln Jail.
After the executions and the release of some of the prisoners the nation reorganised itself. The fight was going to be carried on.
Éamon de Valera talks about his escape from Lincoln Jail and coming home to Ireland on the "presidential yacht". Back in Ireland he stayed with Cathal Brugha. There was much discussion as to what should be done next. After another brief trip to Liverpool Éamon de Valera returned again to Dublin and at a meeting of the Dáil he was appointed president.
