The photograph accompanying this clip shows Richie Ryan, a Fine Gael candidate in the 1979 elections to the European Parliament, outside Fine Gael's offices in Upper Mount Street, Dublin in March of that year. He was was elected for the constituency of Dublin. This was the first year of elections to the European Parliament. Richie Ryan was first elected to the Dáil for the constituency of Dublin South-West in a 1959 by-election. He was Minister for Finance and Minister for the Public Service from 1973-1977.
