Gay Byrne looks back on his career with Olivia O’Leary.
He explains why he became his own producer and looks at the changes in broadcasting over the years. He says he was the first to use telephones live on the air in Ireland. He found that people were more likely to be intimate and confessional over the phone because they were sitting in their own environment, whereas the studio environment could be inhibiting.
