Karen Gearon wins her case for unfair dismissal against Dunnes Stores.
Eight of the Dunnes Stores strikers returned to work in April 1987 following a statement that it was not company policy to handle illegal or dangerous goods. Among them was shop steward Karen Gearon, who was sacked the following year.
Joe O’Brien reports on the outcome of her case for unfair dismissal in this RTÉ News report. Dunnes said she was dismissed for poor performance and absenteeism. Gearon argued that she had been required to work the till for longer periods than her colleagues and medically treated for stress.
