Donal Meligan who played 'Moureen's Boyfriend' is wearing the red neckerchief while Des Keogh who played a 'Lanky Private' can also be seen joking for the camera. Robert Mitchum features briefly twice on location and during the filming of a night scene.

| Information: | Tom Fitzgerald (1939-2013) was a member of Kerry County Council from 1979 to 1985 he also served in Seanad Éireann where he was the governement's chief whip. He was a close friend and supporter of Charles Haughey. In 1969 Tom Fitzgerald was a small builder. A contributor to Michael Tanner's book 'Troubled Epic On Location With Ryan's Daughter' Tom talked of how the Dingle area and he himself benefited from the production. Tom also worked as a stand in on the film for both Douglas Sheldon and Robert Mitchum. A month into the production of 'Ryan's Daughter' Tom Fitzgerald purchased a Super 8mm camera and filmed his own record of events on location. Some highlights from that footage are shown here. 'Ryan's Daughter' was directed by David Lean and starred Robert Mitchum, Sarah Miles, John Mills, Christopher Jones, Marie Kean, Trevor Howard and Leo McKern. The production was filmed on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry in 1969. 'Ryan's Daughter' won two Oscars. |
