The Irish Republican Army (IRA) has said it carried out last night's attempt on the life of the former governor of Gibraltar. Sir Peter Terry, who is still in a serious condition in hospital, was shot as he sat in his Staffordshire home. It is thought to have been a revenge attack for the 1988 killing of three IRA members in Gibraltar.
